Moscow export
Scale
Moscow is Russia's leader in non-resource, non-energy exports (NRE). For example, in 2024, the value of exports amounted to approximately $8.9 billion (an increase of 2.5% compared to 2023). And the volume of export contracts signed with the support of city programs exceeded 26 billion rubles—a 37% increase from the previous year.
What is exported?
The spectrum is very wide:
• Mechanical engineering and industry (almost a quarter of the NNE): equipment for the mining and metallurgical industry, lithium-ion batteries for equipment, solutions for transport infrastructure, radiation monitoring devices.
• Chemical industry (about 18%): plastics, rubber, solvents, paints and varnishes.
• High-tech solutions and IT : software, equipment for radio electronics, solutions for virtual reality.
• Pharmaceutics and medicine : medicines, medical equipment.
• Food industry : ice cream, confectionery, health food products.
• Cosmetics and household chemicals.
• Creative industries : for example, animation, cinema.
Where are they taking you?
Since 2022, companies have been actively reorienting their flows. Key destinations include China, the CIS countries (Kazakhstan, Belarus, Uzbekistan), as well as countries in Asia (India, Vietnam), the Middle East (UAE, Turkey, Saudi Arabia), Africa (Egypt, Senegal), and Latin America. Some companies have also begun exporting to countries such as Iran and Turkmenistan for the first time.
How the city supports exporters
The Moscow Export Center (MEC) was created to provide systematic assistance . It operates as a one-stop shop: entrepreneurs can receive support at every stage, from the initial idea to contract signing. The MEC offers over 30 services:
• Training and acceleration : programs like Moscow Fast Track, which help develop an export strategy in three months, conduct B2B meetings, and provide mentoring (the center covers up to 85% of the cost of participation).
• Promotion : organizing participation in foreign exhibitions and business missions.
• Access to electronic platforms : assistance in placing products on international marketplaces ( GlobalTradePlaza , Ecasb and others).
• Financial support : preferential pre-export lending (at a rate of half the Central Bank's key rate plus 2 percentage points, up to a maximum of 100 million rubles) and export cashback (10% of the contract amount, but no more than 10 million rubles; for companies entering the market for the first time or increasing exports by more than 20%, the amount can be increased to 20%).
• Counterparty selection : a free service that helps find foreign partners.
• Ambassadors : MEC has a network of representatives abroad (in Egypt, Vietnam, Malaysia, Iran, China, the UAE, Turkey, South Africa, Oman) who provide local assistance.
